Special Report- Honda and Bajaj Superbikes in India shortly
Eying a big potential for luxury bikes in India, where tastes are changing from mass-market machines to high-end bikes, Honda and Bajaj are looking at launching new sportsbikes in the country in the next couple of months.
There had been a sudden surge in the number of International Sportsbikes brands entering the Indian market, over the past two years. Initially the trend was set by Kinetic with the launch of the 250cc, v-twin-powered Hyosung Comet in India back in 2005. Then it was Yamaha, which launched the Yamaha R1 in India and the MT-01 cruiser in 2007. Soon later followed by the Italian motorcycle giant Ducati, who launched an array of superbikes costing up to almost 50 lakhs, and finally Suzuki joined the superbike bandwagon in late-2008, with its Hayabusa superbike and the Intruder cruiserHonda,Bajaj don’t want to be left out in the Superbike Race
Honda,Bajaj don’t want to be left out in the Superbike Race
Keeping with that trend, Honda and Bajaj don’t want to be left behind. Honda now intends to provide some competition to the Yamaha R1and the Suzuki Hayabusa by launching the Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade in India, in the first quarter of this year, and following will be a naked version of the bike (pictured below).
Honda also plans to launch the Honda CB1000R in India alongside it. Both bikes are expected to be priced at around Rs 9.5-10.5 lakhs, making them slightly cheaper alternatives to the R1 and the Hayabusa.
Bajaj, on the other hand, plans to adopt a different strategy – a much lower price-point.
- The Bajaj-Kawasaki collaboration will first launch the Kawasaki Ninja 250R- likely to be priced at around Rs 1.75-2.0 lakh.
- Will be powered by a liquid-cooled, 250cc parallel twin, the baby Ninja won’t fall in the same league as the R1 or Fireblade, but will offer motorcycle enthusiasts an affordable option.
Ultra-Mobile Computing with Computerized Chopper

Car PCs are nothing new but a chopper with a PC on board is one pimped ride. And, that’s exactly what Chopper master Orange County Choppers has to offer together with Black Diamond and Intel. The computerized chopper is fitted with an all-weather SwitchBack PC on board that can very well withstand the vibrations and movement of the bike for smooth surfing.
The chopper also boasts of a digital dashboard that not just offers web access but also other processor based operations. It also has a fingerprint recognition system that acts as the ignition instead of struggling with the key. The bike also features rear mounted cameras instead of rear view mirrors, wireless connectivity, including Bluetooth, GPS and plenty of other cool features. And, this coolness will set you back from $6,000 to $10,000 for the PC and whatever bike you want it on
will lessen your bank account further.

There are a lot of reasons to love the Pontiac Vibe. First, it's versatile, with a tall, roomy interior, mini-wagon body, and a hard-plastic-lined cargo bay. Second, it's safe -- all versions of the Vibe have electronic stability control as standard, and all-wheel-drive is optional. And third, it's a Toyota. Okay, it's not actually a Toyota -- the Pontiac Vibe is a joint collaboration between Toyota and General Motors, but the mechanical bits are Toyota-sourced and the car is built at the joint GM-Toyota NUMMI plant in California, which has been turning out high-quality cars (including the Toyota Corolla and Tacoma pickup) for over twenty years. Toyota has their own version -- the also-new-for-2009 Matrix -- but the Pontiac Vibe is better. The all-new 2009 Pontiac Vibe is the latest product of General Motors' 20+ year joint venture with Japanese automaker Toyota. Like the first-generation Vibe, which made its debut in 2002 as a 2003 model, the new Vibe is mechanically identical to Toyota's Matrix. Both cars are based on Toyota's compact Corolla platform and both use Toyota-sourced engines. The Vibe is built alongside other Toyotas at GM/Toyota's NUMMI plant in California. (The Matrix is built in Canada.)
Like the original Vibe, the new car is differentiated from its Toyota-branded cousin primarily by styling. This time, Toyota and Pontiac tried to further separate the two cars visually, and I think Pontiac got the better end of the deal -- I prefer the Vibe's smooth, simple lines to the awkward angles of the Matrix. The Vibe lacks the wrap-around rear glass and small rear-side windows of the Matrix, which makes for a good-sized blind spot (link goes to photo) over the driver's right shoulder, but this doesn't present any real-world difficulties thanks to the Vibe's big side-view mirrors.
Pontiac offers the Vibe in three models: Base, AWD (all-wheel-drive), and GT. All come with six airbags, antilock brakes and electronic stability control as standard, though must-haves like power windows and locks are optional on the Base and AWD models, while air conditioning is a $950 option on the Base. These goodies come standard on the sport-themed Vibe GT, which also gets leather-trimmed seats, Monsoon stereo, 18" alloy wheels and unique front-end styling.

Technological upgrades include an available integrated compass in the rear-view mirror and the optional navigation system includes a larger 40 gigabyte hard drive with more space reserved for music and Zagat Restaurant Survey. A total of eight airbags are standard including new Pelvic airbags for front-seat occupants.Upon introduction, the C300 Sport Sedan is equipped with a standard 3.0-liter, V6, 228-horsepower engine that achieves 18-mpg in the city and 26-mpg on the highway. Triumph Bonneville SE 2009
The original Bonneville was launched to critical acclaim in 1958 and has been Triumph’s signature model ever since.
The latest Bonnevilles have been given a Seventies makeover and feature a host of chassis changes aimed at making the bike easier to ride than ever before.
Visually, the most striking difference comes with the new 17-inch cast alloy wheels at the front and rear, new mudguards and stylish megaphone silencers from the sporty Thruxton.
New handlebars are closer to the rider, and seat height is reduced by 25mm making the riding position even more relaxed and accessible.
2009 Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione
Purity of form—billowing fenders, teardrop windows, and almond headlamps, among other things—and the perfect positioning of details are what makes the 8C so sexy. Its wheels, for example, are already regarded by our staff as among the 10 hottest, and its lower air intakes could quite possibly bring the mustache back in vogue. Given the shapely sheetmetal, it hardly even matters, but what’s underhood is nearly as splendid as the wrapper: a sonorous 4.7-liter V-8 that is closely related to the engine found in another car on this list, the Maserati GranTurismo, as well as several Ferraris. Most Americans currently don’t know—or care one way or another—about Alfa Romeo’s plans to return to the U.S. But anyone lucky enough to lay eyes on the brilliant 8C Competizione that is leading the charge will be darn glad Alfa’s back. Why? Because this is beauty.
